SHERMAN PARK AREA-WIDE PLAN NEAR EAST AREA RENEWAL


 

VS ENGINEERING, INC. provided alternative analysis, evaluation, and preliminary design of infrastructure within the Sherman Park brownfield near the intersection of Sherman Drive and Michigan Street in Indianapolis. The Near East Area Renewal is a non-profit organization that received an Area-Wide Planning Grant from the US EPA. This grant was used to complete an Area-Wide Plan that was presented to the Mayor of Indianapolis, Joe Hogsett, and is anticipated to be utilized as the masterplan for the development of the site.


The project area consists of approximately 70 acres of abandoned and demolished industrial use buildings including a railroad that bisects the area, contamination that is under remediation, and existing underground infrastructure that previously served the site. The plan consists of market studies, environmental review, infrastructure analysis, and extensive public coordination and input. Total infrastructure need will exceed $10 million.


VS ENGINEERING provided the following professional services:

  • Analysis of existing infrastructure capabilities
  • Estimation of current and future runoff, evaluation of alternatives and costs
  • Layout and preliminary design of:
    • 5,000 feet of storm sewer
    • 30 structures of various sizes
    • Underground detention
    • Pavement replacement
    • 800 feet of sanitary sewer
    • 1,500 feet of water main
  • Public Outreach through 5 public meetings
  • Quantities and opinions of probable costs
  • Presentation and coordination with US EPA
